It can practically undo the damage caused by stress and depressive thoughts.

Based on this evidence, it can successfully be assumed that DMT could be the answer to treating depression where the traditional anti-depressants have not been successful. It can also prove to be quite successful for treating other depressive disorders like obsessive-compulsive disorder, PTSD, and even substance abuse, for that matter. Besides, anti-depressants often have an emotionally dulling effect. The most interesting feature of DMT for treating depression has been found in its long-term effects. A spokesperson from Small Pharma has stated that the research evidence has suggested that psychedelic-based therapy can result in the immediate onset of anti-depressant effects. These effects can last for as long as three to six months.


Society is gradually becoming aware of the potential benefits of these novel treatments. The clinical trials have been successful in incorporating psychological and pharmacological elements in the treatment criterion. This will allow us to tap into the long-lasting effects of DMT for treating individuals with mental health disorders.

However, DMT-assisted treatment is still in its infancy. The use of these psychedelic substances for treating mental health disorders is currently being done in clinical settings. Questions are still arising on the applicability of these treatment methods outside of the strict setting of the trials. This is because the control and aftercare will not be as readily available in real-world settings. There are possible safety concerns regarding its applicability, however, they can be dealt with. The first would be to make it an in-clinic treatment with wrap-around therapy. Besides this, mental health practitioners would have to be provided robust training before they start using psychedelics as a treatment.

The new development in the form of psychedelic-assisted therapy presents an exciting time in the field of psychiatry, psychology, and pharmacology. The innovative approach developed by the Centre for Psychedelic Research and Small Pharma could be instrumental in providing the answers to many important questions.
